Adoptable (SFA) Pumping Stations

At Paradigm, our mission is to become the UK's no. 1 supplier for packaged and adoptable pumping stations, making pumping stations easy to specify, simple to install and effortless to maintain. To that end, we've put together this page to outline the steps and stages involved in the completion of an adoptable pumping station.

The Civils Element

The civils element of an SFA project is typically completed by a separate contractor and includes the installation of concrete rings and any additional storage tanks. At the very beginning of the project, a davit socket is sent to the site to be installed in the concrete for the pumping chamber.

The longest lead time in any SFA project is typically the control panel, which can range from 18 to 22 weeks. This is why the control panel is the first item to be ordered, based on the design and specification. If a quicker lead time is needed, a temporary system can be installed until the control panel is delivered to the site.

Stage 1 - 1st Fix - Pipework and Valves

At this stage of the project, all the concrete casting have been completed, and the cores drilled out in the correct locations for inserting pipework into the:

  • Flow rate monitor valve chamber

  • The discharge valve chamber

  • The wet well and

  • Inlet chamber

To allow these works to take place, the following is required to be completed:

  1. All wet well and valve chambers have been constructed as per drawings

  2. All box outs are completed

  3. Cover slabs are fitted to the pump chambers

  4. All chambers pumped out and clear of any water and/or debris

  5. Any inlet pipes to be bunged off

  6. Safe access up to and around the top of all valve and wet well chambers

To complete all the works associated with 'Stage 1 - 1st Fix' of an Adoptable (SFA) pumping station requires 3 consecutive days and 10 working days notice s required to complete this successfully.

Stage 2 - 2nd Fix - Pumps and Controls

At this stage of the project, with all concrete structures and pipework in place, connecting the pumps to the control panel and configuring all other electrical components to ensure the smooth running of pumping station.

To allow these works to take place, the following is required to be completed:

  1. Kiosk plinth is built as per drawings

  2. Wet well benching has been installed

  3. All cables ducts have been installed as per drawing

To complete all the works associated with 'Stage 2 - 2nd Fix' of an Adoptable (SFA) pumping station requires 3 consecutive days and 10 working days notice s required to complete this successfully.

Stage 3 - 3rd Fix - Commissioning

This last stage of the project is to ensure the pumping station is finally completed and ready for full operational use.

To allow these works to take place, the following is required to be completed:

  1. 3 phase meters installed along with the isolator

  2. Rising main is tested and connected to the outfall and discharge pipe

  3. All access covers are installed

  4. All lamp columns are installed

  5. Earth pit is castinstalled

  6. All free issue items are installed

  7. All pipework supports are completed in valve chambers

To complete all the works associated with 'Stage 3 - commissioning' of an Adoptable (SFA) pumping station requires 3 consecutive days and 10 working days notice s required to complete this successfully.

Please note that the kiosk will be delivered to site from the supplier and will be the responsibility of the client to put in place on the plinth. In this instance, it is sometimes easier to combine the engineers visits for stage 2 and 3 which can be requested to ensure this is completed.

In this project, there are some free issue items that we will supply for wither yourself or your civil contractors to install. These include the following:

  • Access Covers - Estimated Lead Time: 4-5 weeks

  • Access Ladders - Estimated Lead Time: 2-3 weeks

  • Valve Chamber Drainpipe - Estimated Lead Time: 2-3 weeks

  • Davit Socket - Estimated Lead Time: 1-2 weeks

  • Penstock Top Boxes- Estimated Lead Time: 1-2 weeks

  • Penstocks - Estimated Lead Time: 2-3 weeks

  • Storage Kiosks - Estimated Lead Time: 5-6 weeks

  • Baffle Plates - Estimated Lead Time: 1-2 weeks

The item with the longest lead time for this project will be the main control panel and kiosk, which is often 21-24 weeks as standard. Once this has been ordered, we will provide an update lead time once received as completion of an adoptable (SFA) pumping station is heavily reliant on this being completed and delivered in a timely manner, particularly stage 2 and 3.

For all site attendances, 10 working days notice is required as a minimum.
