Listed Building needed Super-Silent Pumping Stations

The £10m refurbishment of an 18th Century Grade I listed hotel building in Somerset required more than 12 ultra-silent sewage pumping stations to be installed under the bedrooms in the basement area.

Each pumping station was to be serving one bedroom each and due to the excavation difficulties within the building, they had to be installed underneath the bedrooms.  This meant that the pumping noise had to be minimal to give the guests the best experience.

Following 9 months of development work, with numerous prototypes, acoustic tests and experimenting, Paradigm design engineers arrived at a solution that not only was ultra-silent, it still had a flow rate of around 3 l/sec and boasted a solids handling capacity of 50mm.  The pumping stations are due to be installed into the historic building over the next few months and final testing will take place early 2017.
