The new development of the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) of the University of Birmingham was constructed with the aim of providing research with direct relevance to forested landscapes any where in the world. The aim is to assess two linked challenges of both the impact of climate and environmental change on woodlands and the resilience of trees to pests and disease.
To achieve this in the most effective way possible the groundworks contractors had to be sure not to affect the natural balance of the area. Due to this, there were a number of unusual requests in terms of both system required and construction methods deployed. Our team of engineers came up with a carefully designed and implemented system that would meet all these challenges set by the client.
Once complete this project was recognised as a significant within the construction industry and was awarded the RICS Midlands Awards in the Infrastructure category and was voted the overall winner for 2017. Following this, the project was also awarded the Insider Property Award for Sustainability.
